"How short is ultrashort?" This exciting question was the focus of this year's Campus Thuringia Tour when we welcomed 14 schoolgirls to the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP).
The Campus Thuringia Tour, organized by the Coordination Office for Science and Technology (ThüKo NWTExternal link), aims to get young women interested in the STEM subjects (science , technology , engineering and mathematics) in Thuringia. As part of an ambitious program, female pupil in grades 10 to 13 have the opportunity to visit eight universities and colleges within one week during the autumn vacations.
We at the IAP wanted to pass on our enthusiasm for physics to the young people. In addition to an exciting lecture by Prof. Nolte on ultrashort laser pulses and their applications, the students were also able to gain an insight into current research projects directly in our laboratories. Such opportunities to get in touch with the next generation of (female) students and researchers are always a special pleasure for us.
A big thank you to the organizers of this great project!
