Invitation to the new platform for all PhD-students of our both institutes from the Fraunhofer IOF & IAP

With the opening of the new semester, we would like to offer a new platform to provide a framework for your desire for networking and exchange.

We would like to invite you to the ACP auditorium on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 9:00 am. You can expect short information and insights about the research topics at the IAP and Fraunhofer IOF from the different groups and the introduction of our new professor for Optical System Design (Prof. Vladan Blahnik).

But of course, the main focus will be on you: Here you will have space (and time) to discuss your scientific questions during poster sessions and the opportunity to exchange experiences. We are also looking for your opinion on important points of cooperation.

  • Key Information

    Purpose:

    • Foster networking and exchange among doctoral students at Fraunhofer IOF and IAP.
    • Discuss research work, questions, and challenges in a collaborative environment.

    Event Highlights:

    • Short Presentations:
      • Research group leaders will give brief overviews of their topics to inspire discussions and poster presentations.
    • Poster Sessions:
      • Present your doctoral research in three dedicated sessions.
      • Use the A1-sized poster to facilitate discussions—focus on visuals rather than extensive text (Please design the posters in such a way that you can draw the greatest benefit for your concerns. see also "Poster Template")
      • Poster boards and mounting materials will be provided in the ACP foyer.

    Participation:

    • Your involvement is crucial for the success of this event.
    • Engage with peers and consider founding the doctoral council to enhance your experience at our institutes.

    Food and Refreshments:

    • Enjoy a light lunch, drinks, and coffee & pastries in the afternoon.
    • For the “Shake & Cake” finale, each working group is encouraged to bring a cake and a specialty drink (2-4L, e.g., homemade iced tea or cocktails).

    Feedback:

    • This is the first event in a series—your experiences and suggestions are valuable for future improvements. We appreciate your understanding as we work to make this day informative and enjoyable! If you have further questions, please contact stefan.nolte@uni-jena.de or ira.winkler@uni-jena.de

We look forward to seeing you there!

*Poster Session will be held at the ACP foyer

**Lunch break: A small snack (including vegetarian food) will be provided

***Cakes & Shakes: a small selection of pastries and non-alcoholic drinks will be waiting for you. The idea is for each working group to contribute a cake and ingredients for a drink mix to celebrate a nice end to the day together with intensive on- and off-work chats.

  • Poster Template

In the three poster sessions, you will then have the opportunity to present your doctoral topics and talk to your colleagues. Please design the posters in such a way that you can draw the greatest benefit for your concerns. There is no need to put a lot of text or to polish them up to the details – they should serve as a basis for discussion. Thus, the poster template is only a suggestion, nevertheless, the size should be A1.
The posters should be presented in the foyer of the ACP (we will provide poster boards and mounting material).

Please keep in mind that all other conference participants will probably want to print their posters almost a day in advance, so problems with in-house plotting are to be expected. Early planning of poster printing can prevent this!

Templates can be downloaded at shared (\\sokrates.iap.uni-jena.de) Y:\2_Vorlagen\Poster or directly here in the recommended size of DIN A1pptx, 549 kb.

Posters can be printed via the printing center of the University of Jena.

The plotter at the Abbe Center of Photonics is also available, but is not managed by staff.
