Research on the detection of entropies in Bose-Einstein condensates with Moritz Reh

The paper investigates the information that can be extracted from the measurement distributions of two non-commutative spin observables in a multiwell spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate. A large amount of analytical and numerical evidence is provided that suitably chosen classical entropies and their classical mutual information contain the typical feature of quantum entropies known in quantum field theories, namely the area law, even in the non-Gaussian domain and for a non-zero temperature. Towards a feasible experimental realization, we estimate entropic quantities from a finite number of samples without additional assumptions on the underlying quantum state using k-nearest neighbor estimators.
