PhD position: Light-matter interaction in semiconductor nanowires
Within the framework of DFG Research Group 1616, the Optics Group of the Institute of Solid State Theory and Optics, headed by Prof. Ulf Peschel, offers a PhD position in the research area of nanophotonic components. The research interests include numerical simulations as well as theoretical analyses of light-matter interactions in semiconductors under different excitation conditions. The work is carried out in close collaboration with both experimental and other theory groups.

PhD/Postdoc position: The FET-Open Project SiLAS Silicon Laser
The exciting SiLAS project (http://www.silasproject.eu/fet-openExternal link) proposes an interdisciplinary research effort to demonstrate efficient light emission from direct bandgap SiGe, followed by the development of a SiGe nanolaser. Potential applications include silicon-based on-chip optical interconnects and a silicon-compatible quantum light source. SiLAS brings together partners from the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The PhD student / postdoc will work on advanced fundamental calculations of the structural and optical properties of SiGe nanowires to support and guide the experimental efforts of the experimental partners.
